Bangladesh is approaching the UN for assistance to retain hosting rights for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup. Let us tell you, things have not been going well in Bangladesh for some time now. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has left the country for India and an interim government has been appointed there at present.

The Bangladesh government finds itself in a difficult situation right now as Australia, India and New Zealand may refuse to allow their teams to tour there for the upcoming tournament which is starting from October 3. Asif Mahmud, Youth and Sports Advisor to the interim government of Bangladesh, has spoken openly on this issue.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Asif Mahmud said, ‘Some countries have refused to come to Bangladesh and that is why we will now have to talk to the UN. We have to talk to them about security. Professor Yunus, who is the chief advisor of the interim government of Bangladesh, will talk to the main officials of the UN. He is a sports lover and hopes that he will explain this matter as soon as possible.

The BCB President is not here right now and we have to organise this tournament together. The President’s job is very important but he is unavailable at the moment. The BCB is an autonomous federation and we cannot give them any decision.

BCB needs to evolve now: Syed Ashraful Haque

Asif Mahmood further said, ‘We desperately need to change some things but it will take some time to fully develop. We do not want to change people and at the same time there is a dire need to change the system. Corruption cannot enter the board and we would like to take steps that will provide a permanent solution.’

BCB General Secretary Syed Ashraful Haque said, “BCB needs to grow. We got full membership in 2000 but there are still many things we need to improve. Everything has been the same for the last 24 years and nothing has improved. We are still far behind in terms of planning. BCB officials have absolutely no experience. There are many directors who have been working for the last 20 to 30 years but they have always done wrong things.”
