BCCI appointed Gautam Gambhir as head coach without consulting Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli has retired from the shortest format of cricket after the T20 World Cup, but it is believed that he will definitely play the ODI format at least till the 2027 World Cup. Keeping all these things in mind, the BCCI appointed Gambhir as the head coach without consulting Kohli.
A BCCI source confirmed this to Hindustan Times. The BCCI source said, “There is enough time for talks between the two. But it is important for the BCCI to look at the bigger picture, as many young players can be seen playing for Team India in the coming years.”
The report further states that Hardik Pandya was one of the few players whose opinion was taken by the BCCI before appointing Gambhir as India’s head coach. After Rohit Sharma’s retirement from T20, there are chances that Hardik Pandya can be made the captain of the team in this format.
