Recently, Jay Shah, Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, was elected as the new Chairman without any opposition in the Apex Council meeting held in Dubai last month. So now Jay Shah, who has been holding the responsibility in BCCI for five years, is going to take over the post of ICC Chairman from December 1.

However, now news is coming that the International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to extend the current tenure of its new chairman. Earlier the tenure of the Chairman was of two years, which has now been reduced to three years. Earlier any chairman could complete three terms of two years each. But now that the tenure period has increased, any chairman can be elected only for two consecutive terms.

But Shah will now remain on this post for two consecutive terms, whose duration will be 3 years each. After this major change in the rules, Jay Shah is going to be seen working on the post of ICC Chairman for six consecutive years.

Also, according to the new rules, elected presidents cannot be re-elected in future. Jay Shah will replace the current chairman Greg Barclay in ICC. It is noteworthy that Barkley was selected for the first time in 2020. Since then he has completed 2 terms.

There was also a change in the rules of women’s ranking

In addition to the change in the tenure of the chairman’s post, the ICC Chief Executives Committee (CEC) has announced changes to the women’s ranking rules. After the new rule, any team will have to play at least 8 matches in ODI and T20 formats every year to get into the ICC rankings. Earlier there was a rule to play 6 matches. The annual update of the ranking will now be done on May 1 instead of October 1.
