Just before the start of IPL 2024, a big good news has come for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The team’s young cricketer Sameer Rizvi is looking in great form before the start of the tournament. The batsman from Uttar Pradesh scored a brilliant century in the Colonel CK Nayudu Trophy against Saurashtra in Kanpur on Sunday. Today he converted that innings into a triple century.
In the quarter-final match of the Under-23 tournament between Uttar Pradesh and Saurashtra, Rizvi showed his class and scored unbeaten 134 runs in 117 balls on the first day. Saurashtra won the toss and decided to bowl first. Rizvi proved Saurashtra’s decision of winning the toss wrong and scored a quick century. He remained unbeaten after scoring 134 runs.
When he came to bat on Monday, he continued to bat brilliantly and completed his triple century in 261 balls and was out after scoring 312 runs. During his innings he hit 33 fours and 12 sixes. His excellent performance, coupled with a brilliant century (132 runs off 222 balls) from teammate Rituraj Sharma, helped Uttar Pradesh reach a strong score of 684/6 after 139.2 overs.
The Uttar Pradesh batsman, known for his quick century in the inaugural match of the UP T20 League, is making waves in the domestic circuit. With a formidable batting average of 49.16 and strike rate of 134.70 in T20s, his skills caught the attention of the Chennai Super Kings selectors. Recently, during the CK Nayudu Trophy, CSK management praised Rizvi after watching his century.
There was a fierce bidding war on the auction table for 20-year-old Rizvi in the IPL 2024 auction. He had kept his base price for the auction at Rs 20 lakh but due to his all-round skills, there was a fierce bidding war between Gujarat Titans and CSK and finally CSK bought him for Rs 8.4 crore.
