According to Anil Kumble, Shubman Gill has a lot of experience of playing in Australia and he can be seen batting tremendously at number three. He has appealed to Team India that if Rohit Sharma is unavailable in the Test match, then Shubman Gill should not be made to open.

Talking about Shubman Gill, he made his debut for Team India as an opener in Melbourne in 2020. He opened for Team India in 17 Tests, after which Gill started batting at number three from 2023 onwards. For quite some time now, reports have been coming out that Indian team captain Rohit Sharma may miss the first match of the upcoming 5-match Test series against Australia.

On the first day of the first Test between India and New Zealand, Anil Kumble told the broadcaster, ‘Shubman Gill is a talented player. He also has the ability. He has been to Australia before also. He scored a brilliant half-century in Brisbane and Shubman Gill knows the situation there very well.

The former spinner further said, ‘I don’t want to let it change. If Rohit is unavailable in the first test then Shubman Gill can be sent to open. But there is also KL Rahul in the team who can be seen doing wicketkeeping along with opening. Rahul Dravid had done this earlier and now KL Rahul is also doing the same.

Gill can be seen playing an important role in Australia. I only want him to be seen batting at number three. The best thing about Gill is that his performance against Australia has been excellent and he knows the conditions there very well.
