India started the series in great style by defeating Australia by 295 runs in the first Test match of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. In the first innings of the Perth Test, the Indian team had to struggle against the Australian fast bowling attack, the team was reduced to a score of just 150.

The team then made a strong comeback in the second innings and gave Australia a target of 534 runs due to the brilliant batting of Yashasvi Jaiswal (161), Virat Kohli (100*) and KL Rahul (77). Due to the brilliant bowling of Jasprit Bumrah, Siraj and Harshit Rana, the host team was all out on 238.

After India’s victory in the Perth Test, Australian legend Ricky Ponting praised the team and described Yashasvi Jaiswal as a big talent in India. Yashasvi was out on a duck in the first innings, but then compensated in the second innings by scoring a brilliant century. Ponting also said that Team India performs better abroad than at home.

Ricky Ponting while talking on Star Sports said,

He (Yashaswi Jaiswal) is not playing his first match, so obviously there is some discussion about him, and he is definitely very skillful. I think we saw that in the second inning this week. He is a huge talent in India, and he is going to play a lot of cricket for them. It was good to get him out cheaply in the first innings, but he certainly made up for it in the second innings. So, you have to give them credit.

Ponting further said,

I didn’t think they would be able to win the first Test, going to India, Perth, in conditions that are so foreign to them. But I also said before the Test match that I think India are a better team away from home now than they are at home. I think they now play better on foreign wickets and conditions than in their own country. And this was proved last week in Perth.
