International Cricket Council (ICC) on 15 March ICC Men’s T20 World Cup The qualification process for 2026 has been approved. The ICC at its Executive Board meeting held in Dubai today confirmed the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 and the qualification process, where 20 teams will participate.

India and Sri Lanka will together host the T20 World Cup in February and March in 2026, where 20 teams will face each other in 55 matches, the format of which is similar to the upcoming mega event. The 2024 T20 World Cup will be played in West Indies and USA in June this year.

Meanwhile, 12 teams, including the two hosts India and Sri Lanka, will automatically qualify for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, while eight teams will play regional qualifiers for a place in the mega event. Additionally, the top eight teams will be part of the automatic qualification for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 and the remaining spots will be filled by the next highest ranked teams.

“The ICC Board has also approved the qualification process for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026,” the ICC said in an official media release. There will be 12 automatic qualifiers in this tournament to be held in India and Sri Lanka.

These will include the top eight teams of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, as well as the joint hosts, and the remaining places (between 2-4 depending on the final position of the hosts) in the ICC Men’s T20I Ranking Table as of 30 June 2024. Will be filled by the next highest ranked teams. The remaining eight teams will be selected through regional qualifiers.”

Let us tell you, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has also confirmed that reserve days will be available for the semi-finals and final in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The ICC also said that for results to be considered in the group and Super Eight stages, the team batting second will have to bowl at least five overs. However, in knockout matches, at least 10 overs must be bowled in the second innings for the game to be successful.
