Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami is all set to make a comeback in competitive cricket after being away from cricket for almost a year. Shami will represent Bengal in the Ranji Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh starting on Wednesday in Indore. The National Cricket Academy (NCA) has cleared him to play. Shami’s return was expected for a long time, it was expected that he would play in Ranji Trophy.

After about a year, he will be seen playing professional matches. He played his last match for India on 19 November 2023, which was the final match of the 2023 World Cup. Since then he could not play any domestic match due to injury. However, now he will get a chance in Ranji Trophy and he will be seen on the field on Wednesday 13th November. This has been announced by the Bengal Cricket Association.

Bengal Cricket Association issued a press release saying, “It is a good thing for Indian cricket and Bengal Ranji Trophy that Mohammed Shami is going to make his comeback. He is going to play in the Ranji match against host Madhya Pradesh starting from Wednesday in Indore. Shami, who last played for India in November last year, will take charge of the team’s fast bowling attack against Madhya Pradesh.

Bengal Cricket Association further said, “Shami’s inclusion in the Bengal team will prove to be very beneficial for the team. The Bengal team is trying to make it to the second round of Ranji Trophy.” Bengal team is currently at fifth position in its group after scoring 8 points after four matches.

In such a situation, Shami has a chance to prove his fitness and if he performs well here, he can still be selected for the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. If Shami proves his fitness by playing two consecutive Ranji matches and bowling long spells, then he can play in the last three matches in Australia also.
