India are preparing to tour Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in November 2024. The BGT is now considered one of cricket’s most iconic rivalries, comparable to the historic Ashes series between Australia and England.

Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc explained the importance of BGT and said that this series is as important as the Ashes for Australian cricketers and fans. Starc said-

“For Australian cricket, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy comes after the Ashes in importance. The Ashes have a long history, but the Border-Gavaskar rivalry is getting stronger with every series. Now it is being seen as a five-Test series, which is great for both the rivalry and Test cricket.”

Pat Cummins’ confidence

Australian captain Pat Cummins also acknowledged the importance of this upcoming series and said that his team is ready to avenge the previous defeat. Cummins said-

“We have lost to India in Australia in the last two series, so now it is time for us to prove ourselves. We have won against them many times, and we will get confidence from those wins.”

The importance of the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy series also increases due to the fact that both the teams are at the top of the World Test Championship (WTC) points table. 60 crucial points will be at stake in this series, which can prove to be decisive for the teams reaching the WTC final.
