According to several media reports, Chandika Hathurusingha had slapped a Bangladesh cricketer during the ODI World Cup 2023 in India, which is said to be the main reason for her suspension. Hathurusingha will be released from his contract after the completion of his suspension period. Let us tell you, during the tenure of Hathurusingha, Bangladesh’s performance in both the ODI World Cup 2023 and T20 World Cup 2024 was disappointing.

Apart from this, Bangladesh Cricket Board has appointed Phil Simmons as the interim coach of the team. He will take charge till the matches against South Africa, UAE, West Indies and the Champions Trophy.

We have sent a notice to Hathurusingha today – BCB President

Speaking on The Daily Star, Bangladesh Cricket Board President Farooq Ahmed said,

We have sent a notice to him (Hathurusingha) today and have suspended him from the post of head coach. We have decided to appoint interim head coaches for South Africa, UAE, West Indies and ICC Champions Trophy. Hathusingha has been asked to respond to the notice within 48 hours and his suspension will come into effect with immediate effect. His contract will then be suspended, with Phil Simmons appointed as the new interim head coach. They will work till the Champions Trophy.
