Gautam Gambhir has given his first interview for the post of head coach through Zoom meeting.
Rahul Dravid’s tenure as head coach is ending after the T20 World Cup 2024. BCCI has invited applications for the post of new coach. The tenure of the new head coach will be from July 2024 to December 2027. Ever since Kolkata Knight Riders have lifted the third IPL trophy under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir, there has been a lot of discussion that he could become the next coach of the Indian team.
Recently, it was reported that Gautam Gambhir is the only person to have applied for the post of coach. His first interview has also been conducted today on Tuesday (18 June).
The second round of interview will be held tomorrow on 19th June
According to reports, Gautam Gambhir has given his first interview for the post of head coach through Zoom meeting. Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) head Ashok Malhotra has interviewed Gambhir. The second round of the interview will be held on Wednesday (June 19). However, no official information has been released by the BCCI on this matter.
The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) also includes former cricketers Jatin Paranjape and Sulakshana Naik. These officials also have the power to appoint the head coach. After the second round, the head coach can be officially announced by the end of the month. Let us tell you that the board does not have many options, due to which it is almost certain that Gautam Gambhir will become the next head coach.
Gautam Gambhir laid down these conditions
According to media reports, Gautam Gambhir had put forward some conditions in front of BCCI, which the board has accepted. Gautam Gambhir’s demands include permission to make his own selections in the coaching staff, some major changes in the team, limited overs cricket, and separate teams in the test format. BCCI accepted these conditions after which Gambhir agreed to the interview.
Gautam Gambhir had also expressed his desire to become the Indian head coach some time back. During an interview, he had said,
,Look, I would love to coach the Indian team. There is no bigger honour than that. There is no bigger honour than coaching your national team. You are representing 140 crore Indians. And more so across the world. And when you represent India, how can it be bigger than that?’
