England’s World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan has praised Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bowling all-rounder Sunil Narine for his match-winning innings against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match. Along with this, he said that Sunil has played some shots which his childhood hero and West Indies legend Brian Lara would be really happy to see.
In the match played yesterday between DC vs KKR, Sunil Narayan had troubled the Delhi Capitals team. His bat was raining sixes and fours. No bowler was able to break him and thus his innings of 85 runs in 39 balls helped Kolkata score a huge score of 272/7, which was the second highest score in IPL history. However, despite half-centuries from Delhi captain Rishabh Pant and Tristan Stubbs, the team could not achieve the target and collapsed for 166 runs. As a result, Delhi Capitals lost the match by 106 runs.
Brian Lara will be happy to see Sunil Narine’s innings: Eoin Morgan
GeoCinema IPL expert Morgan said that Sunil Narayan’s batting idol since childhood is Brian Lara. Along with this, he also told that T20 specialist Sunil was a batsman in his younger days who could bowl a little seam. But eventually he decided to become a spinner who could bat a bit.
Morgan said about Sunil Nairan, “Seeing his innings today shows how much he enjoys his batting. When he was young he was a batsman and did some seam bowling. With time, he decided to become a spinner and developed his own magic balls and worked hard on them. But he gets a lot of pleasure from his batting. His hero since childhood was Brian Lara, he will be happy with some of the shots played by Sunil Narine this evening.”
Sunil Narayan received the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his half-century innings. With this win, KKR is on top by winning all three matches and gaining six points. DC are at ninth position with one win and three losses.
