While Kandy Falcons were batting, Colombo Strikers’ star player Chamika Karunaratne took a brilliant catch.

The 7th match of Lanka Premier League 2024 was played on 6 July between Kandy Falcons and Colombo Strikers at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. Kandy Falcons won the toss and decided to bowl in the match.

Batting first, Colombo Strikers scored 199 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs and gave a target of 200 runs to Kandy Falcons. But during the second innings, an incident happened which has become a topic of much discussion. A catch by Chamika Karunaratne is making headlines

During the batting of Kandy Falcons, Colombo Strikers’ brilliant player Chamika Karunaratne took a brilliant catch. During the 7.5th over, Mohammad Haris played a shot which Karunaratne caught flying in the air. All the players started celebrating.

But when the matter went to the third umpire, the third umpire declared it not out. This was because the umpire did not agree with the catch taken by Karunaratne that his finger was under the ball.

In the video, we can see that after taking the catch, Karunaratne fell on the turf with the ball and then slid forward. By then the ball had touched the ground and hence it was not declared out.

Talking about the match, Kandy Falcons lost the match by just 2 runs while chasing the target of 200 runs. Colombo Strikers bowled brilliantly and kept their opponents away from the target. Taskin Ahmed, Thisara Perera, and Shadab Khan took 1-1 wickets. Mathisha Pathirana took 4 wickets and also won the Player of the Match award for this brilliant spell.

After this match, Colombo Strikers are in second place with 2 wins in 3 matches. On the other hand, Kandy Falcons team has won just 1 match out of 3 and is in fourth place in the points table.
