Mike Hesson & Virat Kohli (Photo Source: Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) coach Mike Hesson believes that Virat Kohli is at that stage of his career where his first goal is to help India win matches rather than making personal records. The former Indian captain is going through a bad phase in Test cricket, he has not been able to register a single 50+ score in Tests this year. Since 2019, he has managed to score only two centuries in the longest format of the game. While his teammates like Steve Smith, Joe Root and Kane Williamson are making rapid progress in red-ball cricket, Kohli is struggling to live up to his standards. Mike Hesson gave a big statement regarding Virat Kohli Hesson said, ‘I think Virat Kohli is at that stage of his career where he wants to win matches for India. I think it’s a dangerous transition for other teams because if they’re doing that instead of focusing on numbers, big scores will come naturally. The ability to maintain a momentum is important in Australia. For this, the batsman has to be able to counterattack and wait for the right moment to do so. 30 to 60 overs is an important phase there. If Kohli is batting at that time then he will not let the game go astray. It’s about finding the gap, playing shots in the gap. If they try the same this time too and are capable, then they can prove to be dangerous against Australia. Hesson said that despite not having any big scores against Bangladesh, Kohli looked in great form and added that he would do well against teams like New Zealand and Australia. Hesson said, ‘He was in good form and even though he did not score big against Bangladesh, he seemed to be getting into good shape. Going to Australia after playing against New Zealand would suit him as he performs well in these conditions.
