England’s legendary player George Hurst was born

On September 7, 1871, one of the greatest all-rounder players George Hurst was born. While playing for England he scored five half centuries and took four five-wicket hauls. All the five-wicket hauls were taken by Hurst away from home against Australia. George Hurst is also known for his achievements in the county circuit, he helped Yorkshire win the championship three years in a row. He had 4000 runs and 200 wickets in 1906.

Cricketer turned journalist Charles Burgess Fry passed away

On September 7, 1956, English cricketer turned journalist Charles Burgess Fry died at the age of 84. CB Fry excelled at many sports and represented England in both cricket and football. He played association football for England against Ireland in 1901, he was at full-back for Southampton in the 1902 FA Cup Final. In cricket, he played 26 Test matches, scoring 1223 runs at an average of 32.18. He also represented Hampshire at county level.
