Three former South African cricketers, Thami Tsolekile, Lonwabo Tsotsobe and Athi Mbhalati, were arrested as accused in the match-fixing scandal in October 2016. The three players have been arrested for their involvement in the scam on November 18, 28 and 29 respectively.
All three of these former players were implicated in the match-fixing scandal in the T20 Ram Slam Challenge 2015/16. His arrest was made after investigation by the Serious Corruption Investigation Unit of DPCI. Apart from this, the first investigation started when Cricket South Africa’s anti-corruption unit received reports of some suspicious activities regarding former player Ghulam Bodi in 2016. After investigation, it was revealed that Bodi had talked to several players at three places to fix the result of the T20 match.
According to InsideSports, Colonel Mogale said, ‘Both Tsolekile and Tsotsobe were charged with five counts of corruption under Section 15 of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act 2004 (PRECCA). Both of them appeared in the Proteus Specialized Commercial Crime Court today i.e. on 29 November 2024 where their case has been adjourned till 26 February 2025 for disclosure.
Let us tell you that out of the three accused, only Lonwabo Tsotsobe has participated for South Africa at the international level while the other two players have participated only in domestic cricket.
