The first test match will be played between India and Australia from 22nd November.
Team India’s former veteran captain and player Sourav Ganguly has made a big revelation about Rohit Sharma. Ganguly revealed that when Virat Kohli decided to step down from the captaincy role after the series against South Africa in January 2022, Rohit Sharma was not ready to become the Test captain considering his workload.
However, Ganguly convinced Rohit for this and he led Team India in all three formats. Now after retiring from T20, he is the captain of the ODI and Test teams, while Suryakumar Yadav is leading Team India in the shortest format of cricket. The former Indian captain said that he had to convince Rohit to take over the captaincy in the longer format and he is not surprised by what Rohit has achieved so far.
Sourav Ganguly made a big revelation about Rohit Sharma
Sourav Ganguly was quoted as saying by RevSportz, “He did not become the captain because he was captaining in other formats. Therefore he had a lot of workload. I don’t believe in workload. India’s Test captain will remain the Test captain. I told him not to end his career without becoming a Test captain, I am not surprised by what he has achieved.”
Team India is currently on Australia tour where they have to play 5-match Border Gavaskar Test series against the hosts. There is doubt over the availability of captain Rohit Sharma in the first match of this series. Actually, Rohit has recently become a father for the second time. For this reason he did not leave for Australia with the Indian squad.
Regarding this, Ganguly says that if he had been in Rohit’s place, he would have gone to Australia for the Perth Test. He also believes that the upcoming series will be 37-year-old Rohit’s last tour in Australia. Ganguly said, “I hope that Rohit Sharma will leave soon, because the team needs leadership. I believe his wife gave birth to a son last night, so I’m sure he will be gone from the team. He should go as soon as possible and if I were in his place, he would be playing the Perth Test.”
