As India moves to West Indies and United States of America (USA) for T20 World Cup 2024, they will look to end their 11-year-long ICC trophy drought. Indian team captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid would like to win the ICC trophy at all costs. As a coach, Dravid has been excellent in bilateral series, but he has not been able to repeat it in ICC tournaments.

The current Indian team is facing captaincy problems as Rohit and Hardik Pandya have become a matter of concern. Pandya replaced Rohit as the captain of Mumbai Indians and is being considered as the next captain of the Indian team after being made the vice-captain for the T20 World Cup 2024. Former Indian fast bowler Irfan Pathan feels that the first task for Dravid will be to get the players out of the bad form of IPL 2024.

Hindustan Times quoted Irfan Pathan as saying, “I will not even discuss it. What’s done is done. I will just say that this is my expectation from you: I want you to win matches for India. This is the roadmap, and you are an important part of the team and a match winner. Being an all-rounder, I would say he will play an important role. How many fast bowlers have we taken? Apart from Hardik and Shivam Dubey, we have only three specialist bowlers.”

He further added, “So when the time comes, these 3-4 overs will become very crucial. Remember, when we play day matches in West Indies they will allow us to play an extra spinner. So that is where he comes into the plan, he needs to feel good and believe that he can contribute and hence the IPL talks should not even be a one-off.

India has been placed in Group A of the T20 World Cup 2024 along with teams like Pakistan, Ireland, the United States and Canada. The top two teams of the group will find their place in the Super-8 stage of the tournament. India will start their tournament with a match against Ireland in New York on June 5. This match will be followed by an Indo-Pak match on June 9 at the Nassau County Stadium in New York.

Bumrah took 8 wickets in both the innings of that Test match and for this he was chosen Player of the Match. In the match, India achieved a spectacular victory within four days and took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. After seeing the brilliant bowling in that match, former England cricket team fast bowler Steven Finn has praised Jasprit Bumrah’s performance in the first Test match against Australia. Finn praised him a lot and even said that he is the best player in the world. Speaking with former England captain Alastair Cook on TNT Sports, Steven Finn said, “Jaiswal scored a brilliant 161, but he is the player I like to watch. That is Jasprit Bumrah. I think he really is the best player in the world. Honestly, sometimes I think bowling like him is a joke! You see him bowling and you just think, I’m glad I don’t have to come out to bat.” He further said, “I was surprised that India went there (Australia) and defeated Australia, where usually it is very difficult to go and play cricket. Perth, I know it’s not the WACA; I know it’s a new stadium, but still, historically, Australia hasn’t lost many matches there. I thought India performed very bravely there.” Let us tell you that, Bumrah now has 118 wickets in 27 Test matches in SENA countries at an impressive average of 22.55, which also includes his career best performance (6/33). During this period, he has taken five wicket hauls 7 times, which is equal to Kapil Dev. They are followed by BS Chandrashekhar and Zaheer Khan (six each), and Bishan Singh Bedi and Anil Kumble (five each).
