Nikolaas Davin created history by retiring out: In the 34th match of the rain-affected T20 World Cup, England defeated Namibia by 41 runs. After winning this match, England got 5 points. After this, Australia defeated Stotland and the England team entered the Super-8 round.

The England-Namibia match was reduced to 10-10 overs due to rain. In this match, Namibia’s star batsman Nicholas Devine created history in the World Cup by retiring out.

Nikolaas Davin became the first batsman to ‘retire out’

Namibia, which came out to chase a big target in 10 overs, got a good start from Michael Lingen. On the other hand, Nicholas Devin struggled to score runs. Seeing his slow batting, he was retired out by his own team. Nicholas Devin retired in the sixth over after scoring 18 runs in 16 balls.

In his place, David Wiese came to bat and he batted very fast. For the first time in the history of T20 World Cup, a player has been ‘retired out’.

What is the retire out rule?

According to MCC rule 25.4.3, if a batsman leaves the field for any reason other than 25.4.2 (illness, injury or any other unavoidable cause), the player may only return to bat if the opposing captain gives permission.

If for any reason a batsman is unable to resume his innings, the batsman is considered ‘retired out’. On the other hand, when a player is declared retired by the umpire, he can return to bat without the consent of the opposition captain.

Ashwin had also retired out

Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants faced each other in a match of IPL 2022. In this match, Shimron Hetmyer and Ravichandran Ashwin made a half-century partnership. But for the sake of the team, Ashwin “retired out” on 28 runs in the 19th over. Since he lacked aggressive hitting like Riyan Parag, Ashwin retired and came back. Which gave Riyan Parag a chance to come to bat.
