The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned former Indian cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin in a money laundering case related to Hyderabad Cricket Association. Azharuddin is accused of embezzlement of funds during his tenure as HCA president. Let us tell you, he became the President in September 2019 but after just two years, he had to leave the post in June 2021.

The case pertains to an amount of Rs 20 crore that was allocated to improve the facilities at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. With this money, there were diesel generators, firefighting systems and some other works that had to be completed. The former cricketer is expected to appear before the ED on Thursday, October 3.

Azharuddin called the allegations false

Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin, during an interview, denied all the allegations and called them false and politically related. Let us tell you, Azharuddin is also a leader of Indian National Congress. He said, “This is a stunt by my rivals to ruin my reputation.”

Before sending the summons, ED raided 9 places in Telangana, during which the investigating agency also recovered many Ahmed documents along with digital equipment. Let us tell you, HCA CEO Sunilkant Bose has filed a complaint of corruption against former Team India captain Azharuddin.

New cricket stadium is going to be built in Hyderabad

The Hyderabad government is planning to build a new international stadium on the outskirts of the city. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy revealed in the Assembly that talks are on with the BCCI and they have allocated Rs 321 crore for sports from the state budget for 2024-25. With the construction of a new stadium, IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad can get a home ground.
