Gill has been made the vice-captain of the team for the white ball series against Sri Lanka
Indian young player Shubman Gill captained Team India for the first time on the Zimbabwe tour and under his leadership the young brigade won the T20 series 4-1. Earlier, he has captained Gujarat Titans. Now he has been made the vice-captain of the team for the white ball series against Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, former Indian batting coach Vikram Rathod believes that one day Gill will captain India in all three formats.
In the five-match T20 series against Zimbabwe, Shubman Gill’s team had to face a big defeat in the very first match and in the IPL too, Gujarat Titans failed to perform well under his captaincy. In such a situation, questions started arising as soon as the first match was lost. However, under the leadership of Shubman Gill, the team won the series by registering consecutive wins in the remaining four matches.
I am sure he will succeed in this role- Vikram Rathod
Meanwhile, Vikram Rathore was quoted by NDTV Sports as saying, “Whatever I have seen of him, whether it was for Gujarat Titans or in Zimbabwe (when Gill captained the T20 series), he has done a good job. He has shown great body language, which is very important if you are leading a team. Now the BCCI has given him additional responsibility with the vice-captaincy and I am sure he will thrive in the role.”
He further said, I think it is because of captaincy that Virat and Rohit could give their best and I think Shubman Gill will do the same. Although he is not the captain yet, but being in the leadership group, he will also give his best.
Rathore said, I am sure that when you are in that role, leading others, it gives you additional responsibility, which is good. I think it is great for a youngster like Shubman, who can one day captain India in all three formats.
