The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, co-hosted by West Indies and USA, ended with the final match on 29 June. The Indian team won the title for the second time overall by winning against South Africa by 7 runs in the final.

Every player of the team contributed in helping Team India win this title. So during this time, not only Team India but also some players from the remaining 20 teams were such from whom the team had high expectations of performance, but they could not perform. So today in this article we are going to give you information about the flop playing eleven of T20 World Cup 2024. So let’s start:

top order

Mitchell Marsh: The name of Australian captain Mitchell Marsh comes as an opening batsman in our flop eleven. He could not do anything special in the recently concluded T20 World Cup. Marsh was able to score only 125 runs at an average of 20.83 in the 7 matches he played in the tournament.

Reeza Hendricks: To support Mitchell Marsh, Reeza Hendricks is included in our flop XI as an opening batsman. Let us tell you that Hendricks scored only 113 runs in 9 matches played for South Africa at a meager average of 14.12. Also, in the final match against India, he was out after scoring just 4 runs.

Kusal Mendis (WK): When Kusal Mendis was selected in the Sri Lankan team for the T20 World Cup, there were a lot of expectations from him. But Mendis proved to be a big flop in the T20 World Cup and his team could not progress beyond the Super 8 stage. Mendis scored only 75 runs in 3 innings.

Middle Order

Kane WilliamsonBefore the start of the tournament, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson was expected to lead his team to the title, but not only the team but his performance was also disappointing. The team was eliminated in the league stage after losing the match against Afghanistan, and Williamson scored only 28 runs in the 3 matches played.

Jonny Bairstow: England’s aggressive wicketkeeper batsman Jonny Bairstow also could not do anything special in the T20 World Cup. Bairstow scored only 110 runs in the 6 matches he played.

Shadab Khan: Pakistani all-rounder Shadab Khan also could not do anything special in the T20 World Cup. He took 3 wickets in the 3 matches he played and scored only 44 runs with the bat.

Sam Curran: T20 World Cup 2022 Player of the Series Sam Curran has not been able to perform like that season in this season. In the five matches played for England in the T20 World Cup, Sam took only 3 wickets, while his performance with the bat was forgettable.

Bowler

Shaheen Afridi: Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Afridi, known for his lethal bowling, did not show his swing magic in the T20 World Cup 2024. Shaheen took a total of 5 wickets in 4 matches for Pakistan at an average of 21.

Josh Hazlewood: Although Josh Hazlewood bowled well in the T20 World Cup, he is part of our flop playing XI due to his inability to take wickets. Josh Hazlewood took only 4 wickets for Australia in 6 matches.

Matheesha Pathirana: Mathisha Pathirana, who took 13 wickets for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2024, did not have any magic in the T20 World Cup. Mathisha was able to take only 3 wickets in the three matches he played for Sri Lanka.

Mahesh Theekshana: This tournament has been unforgettable for Sri Lankan spinner Mahish Theekshana. Mahish was able to take only 1 wicket in the 3 matches he played, and that too he got against the Netherlands.

Especially the kind of game he showed in Gabba will still be in the minds of Indian fans. However, this time he has not been selected in the Indian team for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Now the all-rounder has broken his silence on head coach Gautam Gambhir’s statement about the team moving on from him. Let us tell you that Shardul performed all-round in Gabba and scored 67 runs in the first innings and also took seven wickets. He is currently away from the cricket field due to injury. The experienced player, who recently underwent foot surgery, has expressed hope of his comeback despite being out of the national team. Shardul Thakur was quoted by Indian Express as saying, no one has contacted me yet, I have just returned from surgery, so obviously that is the reason why I am not in the team at the moment. There will definitely be opportunities: Shardul Thakur Shardul Thakur is claiming his comeback through domestic cricket. Recently, he took seven wickets (4/46 and 3/39) for Mumbai against Services, which shows how good form he is in. He said, my fitness is good now and since the Australia tour is long, opportunities can come any time. After this, the England team is also coming to India for white ball matches, then there is the Champions Trophy, so there is a lot of cricket to be played ahead. There will definitely be opportunities somewhere. Right now my focus is only on improving my fitness and giving 100 percent when I come out on the field. Shardul finally said that, in the first one or two matches, I was feeling a little hesitant while starting, but as I kept playing matches after the surgery, my confidence gradually increased. Now I have achieved 100 percent fitness and it is reflected in my bowling. In the last three or four matches, I have been bowling in full rhythm. However, some catches have been dropped, hence the wickets are not visible on the board, if those catches had been taken I would have had around 20 wickets. But it’s a part of the game.
