Rahul Dravid’s tenure as Indian head coach is about to end after the T20 World Cup 2024. BCCI has started searching for a new head coach, for which the application process has also been started. Interested candidates must apply on or before May 27, 2024, by 6 pm. The tenure of the new head coach will be for 3 years.

Gautam Gambhir is on top of BCCI’s wishlist
According to the report of ESPNCricinfo, Gautam Gambhir is on the top of BCCI’s wishlist. The board has also approached Gambhir about becoming the head coach. Even after retirement from international cricket, Gautam Gambhir is very active. He was the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants in the last two seasons of IPL.
Whereas in IPL 2024, Gautam Gambhir is playing the role of mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders. Under the captaincy of Gambhir, KKR became champion in 2014 and 2016. Kolkata has reached the playoffs this season, the team is currently on top in the points table. Gautam Gambhir’s strategies are making a lot of headlines in this season of IPL, due to which perhaps BCCI is considering Gautam Gambhir as the head coach.
Rahul Dravid’s contract as head coach had ended after the ODI World Cup 2023. But then BCCI had extended Dravid’s tenure till T20 World Cup 2024. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah says that if Rahul Dravid wants to remain on the post of head coach, he will have to apply again. But according to reports, he is not willing to take the responsibility back.
