In the first Test match played at Lord’s, England defeated West Indies by an innings and 114 runs. In this match, young fast bowler Gus Atkinson bowled brilliantly for England and took a total of 12 wickets. He took 7 wickets in the first innings of this match while he took five wickets in the second innings.

With this, Gus Atkinson has become the eighth English bowler to take a 10-wicket haul in his Test debut. Not only this, Gus Atkinson became the third bowler to take a 10-wicket haul at Lord’s. Before him, Bob Massie and Alec Bedser have achieved this feat. Not only this, Gus Atkinson became the 9th English bowler to take a 10-wicket haul in Test debut at Lord’s.

Gus Atkinson’s bowling was praised by many. He could have become the first bowler to take 8 wickets in an innings in England in his debut match but could not achieve this feat.

England won the first test

In the first Test, England won the toss and invited West Indies to bat first. West Indies batted first and scored 121 runs in their first innings after losing all wickets. For the team, Mikyle Lewis scored 27 runs in the first innings while Kavem Hodge contributed 24 runs. Alick Athanaze played an innings of 23 runs while Alzari Joseph scored 14 runs.

England scored 371 runs after losing all wickets in their first innings. Wicketkeeper batsman Jamie Smith scored 70 runs for the team while experienced batsman Joe Root scored 68 runs. Zak Crawley contributed 76 runs while Ollie Pope scored 57 runs. Harry Brook contributed 50 runs. Jaden Searles took four wickets in the first innings for West Indies.

The West Indies team failed to bat well in the second innings as well and was all out for 136 runs. In the second innings, Gudakesh Moti scored the highest 31* runs for the team. Apart from Moti, Alick Athanaze contributed 22 runs while Jason Holder scored 20 runs.
