After India’s win in the first T20I against South Africa on Friday, former India opener Aakash Chopra has made a big statement regarding Abhishek Sharma. In the first T20 match played between India and South Africa, once again Abhishek Sharma’s bat did not work and he was out after scoring 7 runs in 8 balls.
Abhishek was caught by Gerald Coetzee by captain Aiden Markram in the fourth over. The 24-year-old all-rounder has so far scored only 166 runs in 9 T20 International matches at an average of 20.75. Former Indian cricketer and famous commentator Aakash Chopra has made a surprising claim on Abhishek’s continuous flops.
Aakash Chopra gave a big statement regarding Abhishek Sharma
Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube on Saturday, “This is the story of two openers. On one side there is Sanju Samson, whose star is shining. On the other side is Abhishek Sharma, whose stars are in the ascendant. When Abhishek scored a century against Zimbabwe, he was a new rising star. But since then it has gone downhill.
He was out against Coetzee in the first T20. Looking at the kind of shots he hit, it seems as if he has become a prisoner of his own reputation. He is not able to get rid of the reputation he has created (as a fast batsman). They feel that I play like this, so now I have to play like this. I won’t wait. In such a situation, another failure has occurred.”
However, the former cricketer expressed hope that Abhishek will open in the remaining three matches against South Africa as well. But Akash also warned that if the young player fails to create a consistent impact then problems may arise. He said, “A time will come when problems will arise. Questions will be asked as to how long you will be associated with Abhishek. He will get a chance in three more matches. But with every match the sand seems to be slipping from our hands.”
