Kohli started his Test career against West Indies in 2011 which was not so good and his performance in his first Test cricket tour of England in 2014 was disappointing. After being at his best for the next few years, the legendary batsman had to struggle again. Between 2019 and 2021, Virat Kohli had to struggle a lot to score even one run.
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Chopra singled out Virat Kohli’s records, especially run chases, aggressive captaincy and loyalty to Royal Challengers Bangalore as some of his defining qualities. He praised this batsman for his ability to make a comeback.
Aakash Chopra is not tired of praising Virat Kohli
Aakash Chopra said, “Last but not the least (Comeback King). You go up but then you fall. Everyone has to fall but the important thing is how many times one can climb again. He fell once in 2011-12 but got up again. After that, he ruled for eight to ten years. There was no mistake at all.”
The former Indian opener further said, “That was a shock after which he probably decided – ‘Never again’. He played with consistent commitment but then this situation came again during Covid, when he was not scoring runs. He did not score a century for a long time. He missed many matches and many people ignored him.”
Kohli did not score a century in all formats for almost three years after his 136 in the Pink Ball Test against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens in November 2019. He averaged less than 30 in Test cricket in all three formats between 2020-2022.
