30-year-old player Rajat Patidar has got a place in the Indian Test team against England. However, the chances of him getting a chance in the playing XI in both these test matches are very less. But Patidar’s inclusion in the team shows how good India’s domestic cricket is at the moment.
From impressing Chandrakant Pandit with his game in the Ranji Trophy for Madhya Pradesh to holding his own with Virat Kohli in high-pressure IPL matches, Patidar’s journey speaks volumes in itself. Meanwhile, experienced coach and commentator Vijay Dahiya has given a big statement regarding him. According to Dahiya, Patidar’s ability to convert starts into big centuries is what makes him different from the rest.
Vijay Dahiya praised Rajat Patidar fiercely
Vijay Dahiya was quoted by Times of India as saying, “Rajat knows how to score big centuries. Being hungry is one thing but making your plan successful is completely different. If a player is scoring 151 runs out of the team’s total of 227 (India A vs England Lions), then he is an above average player. He has a lot of time when playing bowlers in the 140-click range because he sees the ball early and plays late.”
Patidar may not be very tall in international cricket, but his upright stance and accurate understanding of his off-stump make him different from other players. Dahiya also explained how batsmen benefit from having a little extra time, allowing them to be able to play a variety of strokes.
Dahiya further said, “I agree that you don’t mix red ball and white ball games, but IPL gives you an idea of how you perform against top teams. Everyone knows that Rajat scored a century in the IPL playoffs in difficult conditions, while Sarfaraz struggled against fast bowling. That’s why Rajat Patidar got a place in the team before Sarfaraz.”
