Speaking to India Today after receiving the prestigious Arjuna Award, Shami answered a question on his availability for the England Test. Responding to this he said, “I am trying my best to be available for selection for the England Test series, but Test matches are a longer format so you don’t want to be in the team with any doubts.”

Apart from this, Shami also told about his plans for the T20 World Cup to be held in June. He said, “Whenever it comes to T20, sometimes I do not understand whether I am in the scheme of things or not. But I think before the T20 World Cup you have the IPL and this is the best opportunity to bring momentum, and if the management asks me to play, I will be available.”

Before the England Test series, India will play three T20 matches against Afghanistan at home, with the first match being played on Thursday, January 11. Like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Shami also last played a T20 match against England in the 2022 World Cup, where India lost.
