Glenn Phillips is one of the best fielders in the world
New Zealand cricket team’s star batsman Glenn Phillips has recently talked about his transformation and explained how he has transformed from a wicketkeeper to one of the best fielders in the world.
So, the 27-year-old player has given a big statement about this and said that he does not like wicketkeeping at all and when he suffered a back injury, he started speaking more openly about this.
Also, Phillips has clearly told the New Zealand Cricket Board that if they want to select him in the team as a wicketkeeper, then they should not select him. It is worth noting that since his debut in 2017, Phillips has been selected in the team as an all-rounder only once, while every time he gets a place in the Kiwi team as a wicketkeeper.
Glenn Phillips made a big statement
Let us tell you that in a recent interview with Wisden, Glenn Phillips said- I did not like wicketkeeping for a long time before the back injury, but after this injury I got an excuse not to do it. It started with telling New Zealand Cricket that I do not want them to select me if I play as a wicketkeeper.
Phillips further said- I got into the career boat with my skills and thankfully it worked out for me. I hate doing something with passion, but I will do the work that I enjoy.
On the other hand, this change has been seen in Phillips’ game as well. As a wicketkeeper, his average in T20 format is 18.4 and strike rate is 117.94. Whereas when he plays with the team as an all-rounder, his average is 34.28 and strike rate is 143.67.
