Gujarat Titans became champions in IPL 2022 under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya.
Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra has revealed that he has signed a contract for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Did not try to convince Hardik Pandya to remain with the Ahmedabad franchise. Under the captaincy of Hardik, Gujarat Titans team won the title in the first season itself.
Last year the team had made it to the finals, where Chennai Super Kings defeated the team. Meanwhile, speaking about his good stint with Gujarat Titans, Nehra expressed his sentiments that he could have tried to keep Pandya in the team, but he did not do so.
Quoting Hindustan Times, Ashish Nehra said that, I never tried to convince Hardik to remain in the team. The more you play, the more experience you get. If he had gone to any other team, I would have stopped him. He played here for two years, but he was going back to a team for which he played for 5-6 years.”
Gujarat Titans will miss Hardik Pandya – Ashish Nehra
Nehra also admitted that the Gujarat team will definitely miss Hardik Pandya. But he also said that this will be a big chance and opportunity for other players. Nehra said, “In any game, you have to move forward. You can’t buy experience and it won’t be easy to replace someone like Hardik Pandya or (injured) Mohammed Shami. But this is a learning curve and that is how the team moves forward.”
The former bowler finally said, “Before Hardik Pandya joined Gujarat Titans, he had no experience of captaining any team. 10 teams play in IPL and you will get to see new captains. Shreyas Iyer and even Nitish Rana captained Kolkata Knight Riders. It remains to be seen which player steps forward as captain. As a captain I want to see how he works and not just me, the whole of India wants to see that because that’s the kind of player he is.”
