ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year, list of winners from 2004 to 2023

Indian team’s experienced batsman Virat Kohli has registered his name in the pages of history on 25 January 2024. He won the ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year award for the fourth time. Let us tell you, Virat Kohli had batted very well in 2023 and had made many excellent records in his name.

He scored 1377 runs in 24 ODI innings in 2023 at an average above 72 and a strike rate above 99. This includes 6 centuries and eight half-centuries. Earlier, Virat Kohli has won the ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year trophy in 2012, 2017 and 2018. Every year this best award is given to one of the players from all the countries.

The International Cricket Council includes some players as nominees for different awards and fans vote for all their favorite cricketers through voting. The International Cricket Council started this award in 2004 and this prestigious award was won for the first time by former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff.

In 2004, he scored 633 runs in 13 innings at an average above 57, which included three centuries and two half-centuries. Not only this, Andrew Flintoff also took 16 wickets at an average above 21. Mahendra Singh Dhoni was the first Indian player to win this magnificent trophy. He won this trophy twice in a row i.e. in 2008 and 2009. Apart from Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Kumar Sangakkara has won this award in 2011 and 2013 while Babar Azam has also won it.
Has won the award twice i.e. 2021 and 2022.

You see him bowling and you just think, I’m glad I don’t have to come out to bat.” He further said, “I was surprised that India went there (Australia) and defeated Australia, where usually it is very difficult to go and play cricket. Perth, I know it’s not the WACA; I know it’s a new stadium, but still, historically, Australia hasn’t lost many matches there. I thought India performed very bravely there.” Let us tell you that, Bumrah now has 118 wickets in 27 Test matches in SENA countries at an impressive average of 22.55, which also includes his career best performance (6/33). During this period, he has taken five wicket hauls 7 times, which is equal to Kapil Dev. They are followed by BS Chandrashekhar and Zaheer Khan (six each), and Bishan Singh Bedi and Anil Kumble (five each).
