Gautam Gambhir’s name is being put forward for the next new head of the Indian team. Rahul Dravid’s tenure will end after the T20 World Cup 2024. It is believed that Gautam Gambhir will be the next head coach of Team India after Rahul Dravid. Kolkata Knight Riders appointed Gautam Gambhir as a mentor ahead of IPL 2024 and KKR won their third title under his mentorship.

At the same time, former Indian team captain and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said that he would be happy if Gambhir becomes the coach. Ganguly is in favor of the Indian coach. Rahul Dravid’s tenure ends after the T20 World Cup 2024. He has been handling the responsibility of the head of the Indian team since November 2021.

Sourav Ganguly expressed his opinion on Gautam Gambhir becoming the head coach

While talking to Revsports, Sourav Ganguly said that, “I am in favour of having an Indian coach because our country has immense talent. Our country has highly skilled players who have made valuable contributions to Indian cricket and they should be a part of the system.”

When Ganguly was asked if Gambhir, who is leading the race for the coach’s post, would be suitable for this role, he said, “Has he (Gambhir) applied? Because first he has to apply and only then will he be able to get this post. I think May 27 was the last date for application.”

Ganguly said, “If Gambhir has applied, then you must have seen how he worked for KKR this year. You could see his hunger and passion for winning. If he has applied and the board decides to give him this post, then I will be happy. I believe that he is a good candidate for this post.”

Ganguly says that India is a strong contender for the title in the T20 World Cup being jointly hosted by the USA and West Indies. He said, “India has a very good chance of winning the World Cup. India has to play like a T20 team. There is a lot of talent in this team.”
