This may prove to be a step. Responding to the rumors of Rohit leaving Mumbai Indians, De Villiers said on his YouTube channel that the move will make headlines everywhere.

AB de Villiers gave a big statement regarding Rohit Sharma
De Villiers gave his reaction on Rohit Sharma’s IPL future during a live question and answer session on his YouTube channel. De Villiers said that, given his loyalty to the Mumbai-based franchise, he does not see Rohit moving from MI to RCB.
De Villiers said during a live question-and-answer session on YouTube, “I almost laughed at Rohit’s comment. If Rohit moves from Mumbai Indians to RCB, it will be a big news. Wow! Imagine the headlines. This will be bigger than Hardik Pandya’s step. He moved back to Mumbai from Gujarat Titans, which was not a big surprise though.”
He further added, “But if Rohit leaves Mumbai to join their rivals RCB… Oh my God! I don’t think there is any option. I don’t think Mumbai Indians will release Rohit. “I would give it zero or 0.1 percent chance.”
