Recently, David Warner has retired from international Test and ODI cricket after the three-match Test series against Pakistan. He had already decided that he would retire from international Test cricket after this Test series.

After David Warner’s retirement from international Test cricket, experienced batsman Steve Smith had presented his side and said that he wants to open the Australian team in this format. Now former Australian captain Michael Clarke has given his stand regarding this. According to him, if Steve Smith opens the Australian team in Test cricket, then he can break Brian Lara’s record of 400 runs.

Let us tell you, there are already many such players regarding whom many experts have given their views. Marcus Harris, Matt Renshaw, Cameron Bancroft are already included in this list. All these three players have batted very well in domestic cricket.

Michael Clarke said on ESPN’s Around the Wicket podcast, ‘If Smith wants to do it, I hope he should approve it. After listening to Pat Cummins’ quotes I think it will be a simple swap. I think Cameron Green may be seen opening in place of David Warner unless Steve Smith has to do so. If he has to open, then Steve Smith should open and Cameron Green should bat at number four or number 6.

Steve Smith is a very good player: Michael Clarke

Michael Clarke further said, ‘Steve Smith is a very good player and he is completely ready for this challenge. If Smith opens, he will be the best opener within 12 months. There is nothing to be surprised if Steve Brian breaks Lara’s record of 400 runs because he is a very good batsman and he can bat the whole day.

Till now, no statement has come from the Australian Cricket Board regarding who will replace David Warner, but now the team has to play a Test series against West Indies at home and before that they will have to announce the team.
