India captain Rohit Sharma is all set to make a comeback in the T20 team after a gap of 14 months. India will take on Afghanistan in the first game of the three-match series at the Punjab Cricket Association’s IS Bindra Stadium on Thursday, January 11. Virat Kohli, who is part of Team India for this series, will not be available for the first match due to personal reasons.
In Kohli’s absence, the Indian captain will be entrusted with the responsibility of leading the inexperienced batting line-up as India look to finalize their preparations for the T20 World Cup 2024. Meanwhile, for Rohit Sharma, this comeback of the team was not as he wanted. Actually Rohit Sharma After landing at Chandigarh airport, the team did not go to the hotel but directly joined the practice session at Mohali Stadium.
In fact According to the report of Dainik Jagran,Rohit’s chartered flight to Mohali was delayed due to which the Indian captain had to take this decision to reach on time for the first T20 International match against Afghanistan., The 36-year-old Rohit did some stretching exercises and inspected the pitch with head coach Rahul Dravid. He also faced some throwdowns and interacted with the young players of the team.
It is noteworthy that, Rohit last played a T20I match in the semi-finals of T20 World Cup 2022 where India had to face a humiliating defeat against England by ten wickets. Rohit’s performance with the bat in that tournament was disappointing, scoring just 116 runs in six innings at an average of 19.33 and a strike rate of 106.42.
Rohit Sharma is the second highest run scorer in T20I
However, his records in T20I are excellent and he is the second highest run scorer in this format. He has scored 3853 runs in 140 innings at an average of 31.32 and strike rate of 139.24. During this period he has also scored four centuries. Therefore, the Indian captain would like to play aggressive cricket once again in the upcoming series before the T20 World Cup 2024.
