India defeated Bangladesh by 280 runs in the first Test match.
The first match of the ongoing two-match Test series between India and Bangladesh (IND vs BAN) was played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Let us tell you that in this match, the performance of former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan with the ball and bat was very disappointing.
In the Chennai Test match, Shakib conceded 50 runs in 8 overs in the first innings and then 79 runs in 13 overs in the second innings. Apart from this, he could not do anything special with the bat as well and could score only 32 and 25 runs in both the innings. In the match, India achieved a big victory against Bangladesh by 280 runs.
So Shakib Al Hasan has faced a lot of criticism after this mediocre performance. However, now a big statement from captain Nazmul Hussain Shanto has come out defending the former captain. Shanto says that Shakib is trying his best to regain his form.
Nazmul Hussain Shanto defends Shakib Al Hasan
After the first Test match between India and Bangladesh ended in Chennai, Shanto said- As a captain, I pay attention to how hard a player is working on his game. Shakib is trying his best to get back in form.
Our fast bowlers were doing a great job and Mehdi Hasan Miraz was also bowling well. We took six wickets early, so I didn’t feel the need to use Shakib too much.
However, now it will be interesting to see how Shakib will perform in the second Test match to be held at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur from September 27. If Bangladesh has to challenge a strong team like India during this Test series, then Shakib will have to perform better with the ball and bat.
