On the 37th anniversary of this historic achievement, BCCI honored Gavaskar during lunch on the first day of the fifth and final Test between India and England at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. Gavaskar was gifted a cake in the commentary room on this occasion. BCCI also posted a video of the celebration on social media platform X, in which Gavaskar is seen cutting the cake while talking about the importance of that day in the history of Indian cricket.

Sunil Gavaskar said: “It is fantastic. I want to thank BCCI for remembering this day. This is a memorable day for me, today on March 7 I touched the figure of 10,000 test runs. When I came to the commentary box today, Mohandas Memon told me that today was the day when I scored my first half-century in Test cricket.

So, it is really great for BCCI to remember this. Also, today Ashwin is playing his 100th Test. This is a special day not only for me or Ashwin but also for Indian cricket. I just hope that we finish this Test match with another win.”
