Gavaskar expressed his displeasure during commentary
On the third day of the ongoing third Test match between India and England (IND vs ENG) in Rajkot, the Indian team came to play with a black band on its arm. Team India decided to wear black armbands in the match as a tribute to former Indian cricketer Dattajirao Gaikwad, who recently passed away on February 13 at the age of 95.
After the death of Deepak Saudan in the year 2026, Dattajirao was the oldest living cricketer of India, who is no more in this world. On the other hand, now former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar is very angry with this tribute given by Team India to the former cricketer. Gavaskar says that it took three hearts for the Indian team management to remember this.
Sunil Gavaskar gave a big statement
Let us tell you that BCCI said through a press release today on 17th February – Team India will wear black armband in memory of former Indian captain and India’s oldest Test cricketer Dattajirao Gaikwad, who passed away recently.
On the other hand, Sunil Gavaskar, who was a part of the commentary panel in the Rajkot Test match, said – Better late than never, he should have done this work on the first day itself but better late than never. He was the captain of the Indian team in the five-match series. He captained four of the five matches and the second match was captained by Pankaj Roy.
From this statement given by Gavaskar, you can guess that he says that the Indian team management should do this from day one. But now it doesn’t matter if it comes late, but it comes well.
So let us tell you that BCCI had also shared a post on its social media X account regarding the death of Dattajirao Gaikwad. However, the management took the decision today for the players to play wearing black armbands. Gavaskar was angry on this matter.
