In the first test match played in Hyderabad, England defeated India by 28 runs.
Mark Wood was the only fast bowler for England in the first Test match played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Mark Wood bowled 25 overs in the first Test against India and did not get a single wicket. Despite this, the English player is quite happy with his role.
This was Mark Wood’s first match in the subcontinent and he revealed about his challenges regarding the same. He said that while bowling, he reminded him a lot of James Anderson because they talk to each other a lot during the match. Not only this, Mark Wood also revealed that before the first Test, English captain Ben Stokes had already told him about his role.
Mark Wood also said that in his home country, the role of spinners is very high in the Test match against India and this match was tremendous. According to ESPNcricinfo, Mark Wood said, ‘It was a bit strange. Especially when the captain tells you that you will bowl only one over with the new ball.
It feels very strange when you get only one over and after that the ball is given to another bowler. When the English captain told me, I also thought, okay, I will do the same and I did not say anything after that. Then he told me to rest, which didn’t bother me at all. Ben had already told me that spinners can be seen playing an important role in this match.
I talked to James Anderson a lot about myself: Mark Wood
Mark Wood further said, ‘I told James Anderson that I was feeling very strange because I was not able to talk to anyone. I felt bad that I could not take a single wicket for my team but our team performed very well. This game was great for me and I am happy that we were able to win this match.
