Shubman and Shreyas flopped with the bat in the first innings of the second test.
Former Team India cricketer Aakash Chopra believes that if Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer do not play good innings in the second innings of the ongoing second Test against England, then their place in India’s Test team may be in danger.
India scored 336/6 in their first innings at stumps on day one in Visakhapatnam on Friday, February 2. Gill and Iyer contributed 34 and 27 runs respectively, while Yashasvi Jaiswal scored an unbeaten 179 runs. In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Chopra said that Gill and Iyer will get just one more chance to save their places in the Test XI.
Aakash Chopra warns Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer
He said, “Time is running out very fast for Gill and Iyer. They have one more innings and I really hope they score runs because if their next innings is not good, it will be difficult for both of them to make a place in the team.” The former India opener believes that Gill had to struggle against James Anderson after a good start.
They said that, “Shubhman Gill got a start. He played a little aggressively in the beginning, but after that, James Anderson hit three outside edges in two overs. The third edge also went to the keeper and he was out. He ruined a good start. 34 runs will not be enough to save a place in the team.”
Regarding Shreyas Iyer Aakash Chopra Said, “Shreyas Iyer also had a disappointing performance. The way he was moving in the crease was not giving much confidence. You don’t usually see a batsman moving like this against a fast bowler in Test cricket. Despite the short balls not having much pace, he was moving a lot and eventually got out. You can say that the ball remained a little low and he was a little unlucky, but he was not stable at the crease.”
