In the first Test match played in Hyderabad, England defeated India by 28 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the five-match Test series. In this match, young spinner Tom Hartley bowled brilliantly for England and took 7 wickets in the second innings. No batsman from India was able to bat well against him.

Tom Hartley’s father Bill Hartley said that there are still many things in the nursery that are not being looked after properly. Not only this, he also remembered the time when the young spinner used to play very good football.

Bill Hartley said, ‘When Mike Atherton gave Tom the cap on the first morning, he told Tom that this was the best time to come into the environment of English cricket and there could not be a better time than this. During the first innings, Tom had made some changes in his bowling which proved to be very helpful for him.

Tom had also said that Jeetan Patel, who is the spin bowling coach of England, and Jack Leach told him about many new things and team captain Ben Stokes also supported the young spinner a lot.

Tom Hartley further said, ‘In his childhood, Tom practiced running and catching a lot. He played many other sports also. He also learned swimming and played football as well as rugby. I think as he has played many sports during his childhood days, his body has also changed a lot.

He also got very good coaching in his childhood. Ormskirk Cricket Club was awesome. He was playing senior cricket from a very young age and his performance was really good. It was good that they had finished the match last night itself, if this match had been played till the next morning then I would have been under a lot of pressure.
