India’s young sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal achieved another feat on the second day of the fourth Test on Saturday, 24 February. He has become the fifth Indian in Test history to score 600 or more runs in a series.
Yashasvi made his debut on the West Indies tour in July 2023 and now he achieved this feat by scoring an unbeaten 55 with one run off the bowling of Shoaib Bashir in the fourth Test against England. However, he was out after scoring 73 runs before the end of the day’s play. In his innings he hit 8 fours and one six.
Yashasvi joins the list of greats
With this, Yashasvi Jaiswal has joined the special list along with veteran Sunil Gavaskar, Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid and Dilip Sardesai. Gavaskar, Kohli and Dravid scored more than 600 runs in a Test series twice in their careers, while Dilip Sardesai achieved the feat in the West Indies series in 1970–71.
In the same series, Sunil Gavaskar made the record of scoring the most runs by an Indian batsman in a Test series by scoring 774 runs at an average of 154.8 including four centuries and three half-centuries. Let us tell you that Gavaskar is the only Indian to score more than 700 runs twice in the Test series.
During India’s tour of the West Indies in 1978–79, Gavaskar scored 732 runs in six Test matches at an average of 91.5 with four centuries and one half-century. Apart from this, the world record for most runs in a Test series is in the name of Australian batsman Donald Bradman, who scored 974 runs in five Test matches against England in 1930 at an average of 139.14.

Let us tell you that Yashasvi, a resident of Bhadohi, UP, scored two double centuries against Ben Stokes and Company in Vizag and Rajkot Test. This helped India take a 2-1 lead in the series. So far in this five-match series, Jaiswal has scored a total of 618 runs in seven innings at an average of 103 and strike rate of 78.32.
