New Zealand has created history by whitewashing India in the Test series in India. For this reason, Team India’s hopes of qualifying for the WTC final have suffered a setback. To avoid a clean sweep, India was given a target of 147 runs. Rohit Sharma played some good shots as soon as he came, but he left on the score of 13.

After this, there was such a flurry of wickets falling that Team India lost its five wickets for 29 runs. Indian batsmen looked helpless in front of the spinning balls of Ajaz Patel. India could score only 121 runs and were all out. Rishabh Pant played an inning of 64 runs for the team in the second innings. India faced a whitewash in a Test series at home after 24 years. Many figures were also made during this match.

The most important statistics of the last match of IND vs NZ Test series are given.

6 – Ravindra Jadeja took his 16th fifer in Test cricket and became the sixth-highest fifer for India in Test cricket, surpassing the late Bishan Singh Bedi.

1 – Veteran Ravindra Jadeja took two fives in the same Test for the first time in his career.

5 – Jadeja became the fifth player to score 25 fifty plus scores and take 15 fifties in his Test career. Apart from this there are Ian Botham, Shakib Al Hasan, Daniel Vettori and Kapil Dev.

33.97 – Rohit Sharma’s batting average as an opener-captain in Test cricket. Of all the opener-captains with a minimum of 1200 runs, only Kraigg Brathwaite and Michael Vaughan have a lower average than Rohit.

91 – Rohit Sharma scored runs in 6 innings in this series. Among all Indian captains who have batted in the top 7, and batted a minimum of 6 innings in the same Test series, Rohit’s 91 runs are the fourth lowest.

1 – Ajaz Patel’s 25 wickets at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai are the most taken by any visiting bowler at any ground in India in Tests. He broke Ian Botham’s record of 22 runs in the same stadium.

1 – Ajaz Patel’s three wickets at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai are the joint-most by any visiting bowler at any ground in India in Tests. He equaled Ian Botham’s record of three at the same stadium.

1-Like Jadeja, Ajaz Patel also took five wickets in both the innings of the Test for the first time in his career.

2 – Ajaz Patel’s three fivers at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai are jointly second among all bowlers at that particular ground. Sir Ian Botham and Ravichandran Ashwin both have the same number of bowlers, while Pragyan Ojha is the only bowler with four.

2 – Ijaz became the second bowler in India to take 10 wickets twice on the same ground in Test matches. The only other player who took 10 wickets in two matches in Delhi is Anil Kumble. Incidentally, Patel took all 10 wickets in an innings in Mumbai and Kumble in Delhi.

24 – This is the 24th instance of two different bowlers taking 10 wickets in the same Test. The 23rd example was in the second Test of this series in Pune where Mitchell Santner took 13 wickets and Washington Sundar took 11 wickets. The previous example came in 2016.

4 – This was the fourth instance of two different bowlers taking two fifties each in a Test, as both Ravindra Jadeja and Ajaz Patel did it. The last example was in 2004 when Muttiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne were at the forefront.

10 – Rishabh Pant became the tenth player and third Indian to score more than fifty runs off a run-a-ball in both innings of a Test. Yashasvi Jaiswal also did this in the Kanpur Test against Bangladesh.

10 – Pant also became the tenth player, but only the second Indian, to complete a half-century in less than 50 balls in both innings of a Test. Yashasvi Jaiswal had also done this in the Kanpur Test against Bangladesh.
The two records mentioned above overlap in seven instances, three of which occurred in 2024. The third was Pathum Nissanka who did so against England at The Oval earlier this year.

54.50 – Rishabh Pant’s batting average in the fourth innings in Tests. Of all the Indian players who have scored a minimum of 400 runs in the previous innings, only Sunil Gavaskar (58.25) and Vijay Manjrekar (64.57) have a better average.

2000 – Last time India lost a Test series at home. India lost the two-match series 0–2 to Hansie Cronje-led South Africa. India also lost the only Test against Mike Brearley-led England at the Wankhede Stadium in 1980, which could count as a whitewash by some definitions.

This was the tenth instance of the home team being eliminated in a Test series by 10–3 matches or more. The last example was in 2022 when England whitewashed Pakistan. In fact, Team India previously suffered such a whitewash against Sri Lanka in 2017, while New Zealand has fallen victim twice but never won before.

3 – Rohit Sharma became the third Indian captain to be whitewashed in a Test series on home ground. Sachin Tendulkar was the captain in the whitewash of South Africa, while Gundappa Viswanath led in the only Test.

2 – Tom Latham’s three wins now puts him jointly second in the list of visiting captains with most Test wins in India. Clive Lloyd won six of his 11 Test matches while in charge, while Gerry Alexander, Hansie Cronje, Tony Grigg and Bill Lawry all won three of their five matches in charge. This was Latham’s fourth Test in India as captain.

2 – This is Rohit Sharma’s fifth defeat as captain at home, which means he now has the second most Test defeats at home as an Indian captain. Tiger Pataudi has nine defeats to his name, while Kapil Dev and Mohammad Azharuddin have four defeats to their name.

4 – This match was India’s fourth home Test defeat in 2024, the joint-highest Test defeat by India at home in a year. India had also lost four home Tests in 1969.
