Under the captaincy of Rishabh Pant, Delhi Capitals won 10 out of 14 matches and finished first in the points table with 20 points. Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore were at second and third place with 18 points each. The first phase of Kolkata Knight Riders was very bad, but after showing excellent performance in the UAE leg, the team finished fourth with 7 wins and 14 points in 14 matches.

Chennai Super Kings had secured a place in the final by defeating Delhi Capitals by 4 wickets in the Qualifier-1 match. After defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Eliminator, Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Delhi Capitals by 3 wickets in Qualifier-2. With this victory, Kolkata Knight Riders made it to the finals.

The IPL 2021 final was played between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. Batting first, Chennai Super Kings scored 192 runs on the board at the loss of 3 wickets. Faf du Plessis played the highest innings for the team of 86 runs in 59 balls.

While chasing the target, Kolkata Knight Riders could score only 165 runs at the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. Shubhman Gill played an inning of 51 runs, while for Chennai, Shardul Thakur took the maximum of 3 wickets for 38 runs in 4 overs. Faf du Plessis won the title of Player of the Match.

Chennai Super Kings player Ruturaj Gaikwad had scored 635 runs in 16 matches, and won the Orange Cap. Royal Challengers Bangalore player Harshal Patel took 32 wickets in 15 matches, and won the Purple Cap.
