Chennai Super Kings became champions for the fifth time by defeating Gujarat Titans in IPL 2023.
IPL 2023 Recap: The title of IPL 2022 was won by Gujarat Titans. Even in IPL 2023, defending champion Gujarat Titans showed a brilliant performance and made it to the finals. IPL 2022 was a disappointing one for Chennai Super Kings, with CSK finishing 9th in the points table with just 4 wins.

IPL 2023: Home-away format returned after 3 years
Due to Corona, the last three seasons before IPL 2023 were played in some designated venues. The second phase of IPL 2020 and 2021 season was played in UAE. IPL 2023 was played in home-away format. Fan parks were organized in 45 cities, which last happened in 2019. IPL 2023 was played from March 31 to May 30, in which 10 teams participated.
IPL 2023: Impact players and these new rules implemented
Some new rules were implemented in IPL 2023, let us tell you-
- A penalty of five runs is imposed if there is any unfair action by the fielder or the wicketkeeper before the batsman plays the ball and before the bowler bowls the ball. The ball will also be declared dead ball.
- Teams can be announced after the toss.
- According to the Impact Player rule, after the toss, the team has to name 4 more players apart from its playing 11. One of which he can use as an impact player. This player can replace any other player in the playing 11 at any time in the match.
- If a team fails to bowl its 20 overs in the stipulated time, only four fielders will be allowed outside the circle for the remaining innings.
- Teams can take (DRS) review for wide and no-balls. This change was first used during the 2023 Women’s Premier League.
IPL 2023: Gujarat Titans were on top in the points table
Defending champion Gujarat Titans had topped the points table with 10 wins and 20 points from 14 matches. Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants were at second and third place with 17 points each. Whereas Mumbai Indians had secured fourth place with 8 wins and 16 points in 14 matches.
Chennai Super Kings made it to the finals by defeating Gujarat Titans by 15 runs in Qualifier-1. Mumbai Indians had to face defeat by 81 runs against Lucknow Super Giants in the eliminator match. The Qualifier-2 match was played between Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans. Gujarat Titans won by 62 runs and made it to the finals.
IPL 2023: CSK won the final against Gujarat by 5 wickets
The IPL 2023 final was scheduled to be played on May 28, but due to rain, the match was played on May 29 as a reserve day. But the match ended at 1:35 pm on 30 May. This is the longest IPL final so far. Chennai Super Kings won the toss and decided to bowl first.
Batting first, Gujarat Titans scored 214 runs at the loss of 4 wickets. Due to rain, Chennai Super Kings had a target of 171 runs in 15 overs. With the help of Ravindra Jadeja’s sixes and fours on the last two balls, Chennai Super Kings won by 5 wickets. Devon Conway won the title of Player of the Match.
IPL 2023: Who won the Orange and Purple Cap-
Gujarat Titans player Shubhman Gill had scored 890 runs in 17 matches, and won the Orange Cap. Mohammed Shami had taken 28 in 17 matches, and won the Purple Cap.
