In IPL 2024, the first qualifier match was played between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Tuesday, May 21. In this match held at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, KKR registered a one-sided victory by 8 wickets and made their place in the final. Hyderabad’s team looked weak in all three departments and had to face defeat.

SRH once again ignored all-rounder Washington Sundar and did not include him in the playing eleven. This season the off-spinner has played only two matches, in which he has been able to take only one wicket. On his not being included, former SRH coach Tom Moody now believes that Washington’s poor form is the reason for him not playing.

Regarding the current season, Washington Sundar has played 16 matches in two seasons for Sunrisers Hyderabad, in which he has taken 9 wickets. Tom Moody believes that Sundar is not in his best form and if there was no impact sub rule, he would have made it to the playing eleven.

He either did not bowl well or got injured – Tom Moody

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Tom Moody said that he has not bowled well for Sunrisers for three reasons. In this three-year cycle, he has not bowled well. If you look at his statistics in the last three years, he has either not bowled well or got injured.

He further said that, I think the Impact Sub (rule) has not helped him at all. You will go with him in almost every match because of his multi skills and he gives you balance. But when you’ve got the impact sub, it has made it difficult for him to regain form and confidence.
