After the cancellation of GT vs KKR match, Gujarat Titans are out of the race for the playoffs.
IPL Playoff Scenario: The 63rd match of IPL 2024 was scheduled to be played today (May 13) between Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. But due to rain the match was abandoned without a toss. Both the teams had to share 1-1 points. After the cancellation of the match, Gujarat Titans are out of the tournament. Gujarat is the third team to be eliminated from this season after Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings.
Gujarat kept its playoff hopes alive by defeating Chennai Super Kings. To make it to the top-4, GT had to win the last two matches of the league stage. But the match against Kolkata has been cancelled. Even if the team beats Sunrisers Hyderabad in the next match, it will still not be able to reach the playoffs with 13 points.
Gujarat Titans had won the trophy in the very first season under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya, and were runner-up last season. But under the captaincy of Shubhman Gill, the team has faced a lot of ups and downs this season. Kolkata Knight Riders have confirmed their place in the top-2 with 19 points.
Let us tell you which teams will now fight to reach the playoffs-
IPL Playoff Scenario: Rajasthan will have to do this work to reach the playoffs
Rajasthan Royals are second in the points table with 8 wins and 16 points from 12 matches. The team needs a win to ensure a place in the playoffs. But Rajasthan would like to finish the league stage in the top-2. For which the team will have to show great performance in the last two matches against Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders.
This is how CSK and Sunrisers Hyderabad can reach top-4.
Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad are at third and fourth place with 14 points each. To reach the playoffs, CSK will have to win the last match of the league stage against Royal Challengers Bangalore at any cost. Whereas Sunrisers Hyderabad still has to play two matches against Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings, the team would like to win both the matches.
Difficulties have increased for RCB, Delhi and Lucknow
Royal Challengers Bangalore are at fifth position in the points table with 12 points. The team has to play the last match of the league stage round on May 18 at home against Chennai Super Kings. The team can stake a claim for the playoffs even with 14 points. But for this the team will have to defeat CSK by 18 runs and whatever the target is, it will have to be achieved in 18.1 overs, so that their net run rate can be good.
After the defeat against RCB, Delhi’s hopes of reaching the playoffs have diminished. The team will play its last match against Lucknow Super Giants, even if the team wins this match, they will have to depend on the results of other matches to reach the playoffs.
Whereas Lucknow Super Giants is in seventh place with 12 points, the net run rate of the team is very bad. If CSK and Hyderabad win their upcoming matches then the team’s dream of reaching the playoffs may be shattered. Lucknow will play the last matches of the league stage round against Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians.
