Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have not won any title in the Indian Premier League (IPL), but their quality players make them one of the strongest teams. 2016 is RCB’s best year so far in the IPL. That season, they came close to winning the title on the basis of the phenomenal batting performance of their captain Virat Kohli but could not win the final.
Although RCB has not won any trophy yet, they give tough competition to their opponents. Legendary names like Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, Daniel Vettori and Shane Watson were part of this team in the past. Looking at RCB’s IPL journey, we need to know the captains who dominated the three-time IPL runners-up with their captaincy abilities.
Three most successful captains against RCB franchise
3) Gautam Gambhir
Gautam Gambhir’s captaincy record against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is excellent. The left-handed batsman served as captain in 15 matches against Bangalore and won nine times. While captaining Delhi Capitals (DC), he played two matches against RCB and won one in 2010 and lost the other in 2018.
In 2012, Gambhir led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to their first IPL title with his captaincy and batting. Against RCB, the Knight Riders won twice and in both the wins, the India veteran was the top run-scorer. At the famous Eden Gardens, he played a quickfire inning of 93 runs against the Challengers and made his best batting score in the IPL. On the basis of his excellent innings, Knight Riders won by 47 runs.
