Former Australia captain and new head coach of Punjab Kings, Ricky Ponting has told whether Chennai Super Kings (CSK) can adopt its own formula to manage MS Dhoni’s workload management in IPL 2025. He praised the former CSK captain for playing for so long in the Indian Premier League.

CSK has retained Dhoni for Rs 4 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Former India and Chennai captain Dhoni was retained as an uncapped player as he last played an international match five years ago. Ricky Ponting has made a big prediction regarding 43-year-old Dhoni. Ponting says that CSK will not field Mahi in all the matches in IPL 2025.

Before IPL 2025, Ricky Ponting gave a big statement regarding MS Dhoni.

Ricky Ponting feels that in order to increase Dhoni’s impact in the upcoming season of IPL, he will be given rest sometimes so that the workload can also be managed. Ponting said in the recent episode of ICC Review, “Two seasons ago he probably had his worst season but then he bounced back last year.

He made an impact in some matches like the old MS Dhoni. I think it will be the same now. They may not field him the entire season. They can think of keeping him out of the match and giving him rest to ensure his best performance.”

Let us tell you that under the leadership of Dhoni, CSK has won five IPL trophies. MS Dhoni had handed over the CSK captaincy to Rituraj Gaikwad before IPL 2024. However, the Chennai team was not successful in reaching the playoffs last season. CSK stood fifth in the points table.

Ponting said, “Whichever team he is in, whether he is the captain or not, he will always be a mentor and leader for that team. Even if he is playing or sitting outside. His height is so big. Dhoni is important for Chennai as he provides leadership on and off the field.”

Team India & Sunil Gavaskar (Photo Source: Getty Images) Indian batsmen were seen struggling badly in the home Test series against New Zealand. The result of which was that Team India had to face whitewash in the three-match Test series. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli scored 91 and 93 runs respectively, while players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant and Sarfaraz Khan looked in good form but could not play consistently. India is scheduled to tour Australia next month, where a five-match Test series is to be played under the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In such a situation, the lack of consistent performance of the Indian batsmen is a matter of concern for the team management. Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar talked about the mentality of Indian batsmen. He believes that players have the mentality that if they play a few dot balls, they can play aerial shots, which is not needed in red ball cricket. He said that due to this risk-taking mentality, India is losing wickets quickly. This could be a tour that can decide a lot of futures- Sunil Gavaskar Gavaskar said on India Today, definitely the problem of temperament is more because the temperament at the moment is a white ball legacy. What two or three dot balls? We need to move forward and try to impose ourselves on the bowlers. So go for the big shot, if it comes out good then go for the aerial shot. But where the ball is doing something, these chances are very less. He said that, when the technology is there, the nature of it is that I can do it because the boundaries are small. The bats are very good, the guys are strong too, so we can bring it into the stands. Gavaskar further said that, I think this can be a tour that can decide a lot of futures. And I’m hoping that question will, you know, resolve itself in Australia because they are, at an age and at a stage in their careers, where there will be a second ring in which we will be looking for an opportunity.

Let us tell you that in the first ODI match played against Australia, Babar Azam had scored 37 runs in 44 balls with the help of four fours. According to the former player, Babar Azam is very hungry for runs and he has been seen in his best performance after a long time. Babar Azam had made a very good start in this match but the Pakistani batsman was bowled on the excellent ball of Adam Zampa. Basit Ali has shared a video on his official YouTube channel in which he said, ‘Babar Azam was looking in good form today. Today Babar was playing in top class. However, he went on the back foot against Adam Zampa and had to lose his wicket. It is good to see that Babar Azam is still hungry for runs. This very thing was missing in all formats for a long time but after so many years, he was again seen batting top class. Babar Azam will now have to make big scores: Basit Ali The former player further said, ‘Our people will not be happy at all with 37 runs. Everyone wants Babar Azam to score 137 runs. Similarly, Indian fans will not be happy with Virat Kohli’s inning of 70 runs because they want the experienced batsman to score 170 runs. If big players score 50 runs then it has no importance. However, this 37 runs is a very good sign that Babar will bat even better in the remaining matches. Let us tell you that the second ODI match between these two teams will be played in Adelaide on 8 November. Both the teams would definitely like to win the upcoming match. If Pakistan wants to survive in this ODI series, then it is very important for them to win the second ODI match. Babar Azam will definitely look to score big in this match.
