A two-match T20 and three-match ODI series will be played between Ireland and South Africa.
The Ireland cricket team has announced the team for the upcoming white ball series against South Africa today, Thursday, 12 September. Let us tell you that Ireland’s limited over series against South Africa will start from 27 September in Abu Dhabi. Ireland will be seen playing a two-match T20 and a three-match ODI series against South Africa.
This is going to be the Irish team’s first white ball series after the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The team has not played any competitive cricket since the end of the T20 World Cup. At the same time, the command of the Irish team against South Africa has once again been handed over to experienced opener Paul Stirling. It will be interesting to see how the Irish team is going to perform against South Africa under the captaincy of Stirling.
While announcing the team, Ireland’s national selector Andrew White said – 2026 and 2027 are important years for our white ball cricket team. These years are the next T20 and 50 over World Cups respectively. This means that we are looking at this upcoming series against South Africa as the beginning of a new cricketing cycle.
With this in mind, there are a number of selections and playing combinations that we will look at. However, several uncapped players were actively being considered for selection, such as Morgan Topping and Liam McCarthy, but they are currently struggling with injuries and have not been selected.
